While other companies were busy figuring out how to make the next Mario, Nintendo was quietly putting together another magnificent franchise: Metroid. This little gem was released in 1986 and took platforming games in a very different direction fron Nintendo's own Italian stallion. A mix of sci-fi, tension, and exploration, Metroid launched no only a new series but an entire genre of games.

The Story of Metroid
The original game states that the first title in the series takes place in "20X5 AD". For the sake of discussion, we're going to use real years here. Based on basic supposition, with a general starting year of 2075 and then, each year following featuring a new adventure for Samus, an actual timeline of events would be:
- 2075 AD: Metroid: Zero Mission
- 2076 AD: Metroid Prime
- 2076 AD: Metroid Prime Hunters
- 2077 AD: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
- 2078 AD: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
- 2078 AD: Metroid Prime: Federation Force
- 2079 AD: Metroid Prime 4
- 2080 AD: Metroid: Samus Returns
- 2081 AD: Super Metroid
- 2082 AD: Metroid: Other M
- 2083 AD: Metroid Fusion
- 2084 AD: Metroid Dread
If and when Nintendo releases an official timeline, we will update this section accordingly.
