Marquis and Marchioness
In the CastlevaniaFor years Hollywood attempted to make a Castlevania movie, but it was only with the intervention of Netflix, and the creativity of Frederator Studios, that an anime adaptation (in any form) finally took shape. Netflix adaptation, vampires are far more present than they ever were in the video games. Every season features multiple vampires, all working in service of their chosen master (be it DraculaThe lead antagonist of the Castlevania series and most famous vampire character in all media, all thanks to Bram Stoker. Based on the historical figure Vlad the Impaler, a vicious ruler of Wallachia in the mid-1500s. or CarmillaMaster vampiress and one of Dracula's lieutenants. She's aided in many of his evil schemes, working to ensure his rebirth again and again after the many times the Belmonts have taken down the Lord of Vampires. or, later, Elizabeth BartleyBased on Erzsabet Bathory, Elizabeth is the secondary antagonist in Castlevania: Bloodlines. Bartley is the niece of Dracula and, by sowing discord around Europe, she aids in his eventual resurrection. ne Erzsébet Báthory). The world seems far more full of vampires than the video game series ever really seemed to acknowledge (barring a few vampire minions in Castlevania for the Nintendo 64After a number of titles for non-Nintendo systems, Castlevania’s return should have been marked by much love and enjoyment from the fans. Sadly the first version of the game on Nintendo’s 64-bit console was a flawed game, interesting in places but not the kind of game fans were clamoring for in 1999.).
That carries on in Castlevania: NocturneA loose adaptation of Rondo of Blood, this sequel anime series follows on from Netflix's hit anime adaptation of the game series., the sequel series (or continuation, if you will) to the original Netflix series. The newer show depicts revolutionary France, with the ruling elite not only working to keep the peasants of the land under their dainty boothells, but also sucking them dry quite literally. The nobles are all vampires, and they fear the peasantry and what the Revolution could mean for the vampire power dynamic in the country.
One could rightly assume, with vampires always rising to the top, that the show has a very poor opinion of the ruling elite. They’re always monsters, always creatures that need to be killed. And even when they aren’t vampires, such as in the case of the Judge, they’re still monsters. It’s just made more literal with the Marquis and Marchioness as they’re both part of the French court and vampires at the same time.
Character History:
Castlevania: Nocturne
As the ruling elite of Paris, the Marquis and Marchioness do not wish to see their power diminished. They hear tell of Drolta TzuentesA minor character in Castlevania: Nocturne. The captain and his men stop Drolta Tzuentes and her entourage from entering the city. For this "mistake", he and his men are quickly dispatched. and her coming Messiah and are told that with the Messiah's power the sun will be blotted out and perpetual night will let vampires rule over France. It's a deal that sounds too good to be true, so the Marquis and Marchioness throw their lot in, ready to back this new master in saving their hides. All that stands against them are Richter BelmontRevealed first in Castlevania Dracula X: Rondo of Blood in Japan, and then Castlevania: Dracula X in the West, Richter is the Belmont hero of the late 1700s who worked with Maria Renard to bring down Dracula., Maria RenardA young heroine, and cousin to Richter Belmont, with the blood of the Belmont clan in her veins, Maria teams with Richter to fight back Dracula and the forces of darkness in the late 1700s., and their allies and, as far as the vampires are concerned, that's a problem easily dispatched.
The Marquis later goes with Drolta to the Church for a meeting with the Abbot so that Drolta can ensure everything is going to plan. After the Abbot assures the vampires that everything is on course for the coming of the vampire Messiah, Drolta asks to tour the crypts, to see the demons and the forge they came from. He agrees, leading them on a tour. But that tour is interrupted when they discover that the vampire hunters have invaded the crypts and are destroying the night creatures.
Drolta and the Marquis interceded, but while Drolta was able to get the upper hand in her fight, the Marquis was not. He ended up beheaded by Richter, and while the heroes were eventually chased off, that felt like small comfort for the headless vampire, who quickly died.
