Villages
Excerpt from "Traveling the Beautiful Borgo Pass"
If you're traveling through the lands of our dear host Dracula, there are many fine places to stop for... a bite. However, if you are on a budget we would suggest checking out the fine establishments of the Warakya Village. A quaint little hamlet, Warakya sports many classically built buildings of fine brick with just a hint of ivy to accent and give it a lived in feel.
Come in the Summer for Ocktoberfest, an annual tradition among the villagers (living and dead). Leave before the fall, though, when the town catches fire. It's a lovely sight... when viewed from afar.
About the Village:
There are actually two villages that reside on the grounds of Dracula's Castle (and it's outlying lands) in the various Castlevania games. Both of these evoke a similar vibe but they are, in fact, very different zones within the lore of the series.
The first of these towns was glimpsed early in the series in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. This village, Warakya (a mistranslation of "Wallachia", a real place in Romania), acts as the first zone of the game (Blocks 1-01 through 1-04). Hero Trevor Belmont scales the ruins of this town, through the fallen buildings and then the old church, all before exiting out a courtyard (before battling the Skull Knight).
A different village appears in Castlevania Dracula X: Rondo of Blood as the opening stage of the game, "A Dinner of Flames". This town is attributed as Aljiba (seen previously in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, although the layout of the town here more closely resembles Jova from that NES game) and it sees hero Richter Belmont traversing the sections of the village (while flames burn behind him) so he can take on the hordes of Dracula. Depending on whether you take te main exit out of town, or fllow the secret exit under Aljiba, the heroes will face either the Wyvern or the Serpent at th end of this stage.
These stages were re-imagined for Castlevania: Dracula X, again as that game's opening stage, "Burning Town". The early sections of the stage resembled Warakya Village in layout (although it does get more distinctive later in the stage), while retaining the flames of the Dracula X iteration. The stage then culminates in a battle against the three-headed dog Cerberus.
Other Villages:
It is worth noting that these aren't the only villages to appear in the Castlevania series as there were many more: the Lost Village, Cordova, City of Haze, Wygol, and every town in Castlevania II, although those regions (outside of Aljiba) are not considered to lie "within Dracula's grounds" and will be covered in other sections of this site.
