Jacques

You have to feel bad for any minor character in the Castlevania series. If you are in the background you might survive, but the second you're given a name and it's revealed that you aren't a Belmont, Belnades, or Renard, the likelihood of you making it through the story is somewhere between slim and none. More than likely you're going to be vampire bait, one way or another.

Such was the case for Jacques. A friend of Maria RenardA young heroine, and cousin to Richter Belmont, with the blood of the Belmont clan in her veins, Maria teams with Richter to fight back Dracula and the forces of darkness in the late 1700s. and Richter BelmontRevealed first in Castlevania Dracula X: Rondo of Blood in Japan, and then Castlevania: Dracula X in the West, Richter is the Belmont hero of the late 1700s who worked with Maria Renard to bring down Dracula., as well as a fellow revolutionary, Jacques would attend meetings with his pals, hoping to energize the peasantry so they'd rise up and fight the nobility. The nobility, it should be noted, who are all vampires. He aids his friends in keeping the revolutionaries when, at one such meeting, vampires arrive to kill everyone. It's a very brave and noble thing he does.

But then, after leading his fellow villagers home, Jacques goes for a drink at the tavern and, while walking home, ends up attacked by one of the ruling elite vampires, the Marchioness (see: Marquis and MarchionessIn the time of Revolutionary France, the nobility is under siege by the pesantry. It just so happens that the nobility, led by the Marquis and Marchionesse, are vampires, and they fear the loss of power. So they join with the coming vampire Messiah to ensure their own rule.). His friends aren't there, there's no one to aid him, and in a quiet back alley Jacques is fed upon and dragged back to the Marquis's estates. He's killed there, body thrown on a pile to be sent to the AbbotHead of the Paris church in the time of the French Revolution. He's initially presented as a helpful ally, but secretly he's working with the vampires to ensure the rise of their coming Messiah. to be turned into a night creature. And that's the last we see of him.

From revolutionary hero to body for the monster machine, Jacques sadly never stood a chance. Very few ever do in a land of monsters and magic.
