Flame Wars

I have to say even I'm guilty of what I'm going to rant about now, at least once in a while, but as of late, I have seen quite a few flame wars and I feel a need to vent all over you people about them.

May I ask, quite simply, what the point of a flame war is? Is it to try and prove... whatever it is you're fighting over, and show yourself as right? If so, then this is perhaps the single dumbest way to do so. Every time I see a flame war Online at this point, all I ever see is a bunch of people slinging thinly (or totally not) veiled insults while they ignore everything the other side has to say.

What I find most interesting about flame wars is that if people just stopped and thought for a second before trying to think up that all important zinger, there would be no war. They'd end up actually reading what the other person had to say and maybe even grow as a person. But no, never happens...

The worst of these types of wars are, of course, religious wars, although politics does tend to come in a decent second. Of course, the reasoning for this is that these are the two worst subjects to try and discuss anywhere, but in particular Online.

No one cares what someone else 500 miles away thinks. They just say they do that they can try and prove themselves right.

And really, does it matter if someone in Tokyo thinks you're a "fuckhead" for thinking that Bush is either right or wrong, or that you're not a christian or are a christian... Dumbassedness.

Why do people get so worked up over a few words written on a screen. Likely you'll never meet the people you're fighting with, so what, are you trying for a moral victory? Well allow me to let you in on something:

It's just a stupid Internet forum full of people as dumb as you. So just drop whatever grudge you have and try to have some fun.
